At Bryter Digital we were commissioned by Hornby to enhance their HM | DCC mobile application with a new Consisting feature. Our brief was to enable model railway operators to control multiple HM7000-compliant locomotives at once, while preserving the intuitive experience enthusiasts expect.
What we delivered
- User-centric interface enhancements – we added a Consist workflow in the Engine Shed, guiding users through assigning or removing up to eight locomotives in a single consist.
- Real-time multi-locomotive control – our update supports both global and independent function switching, a touch-sensitive throttle sidebar and individual reversal commands.
- Customisation options – users can reposition and resize the vertical throttle via the “Customise Vertical UI Scale” setting, optimising left- or right-hand operation.
- Seamless connectivity – the app now detects Bluetooth and DCC modes automatically, retaining decoder settings even when running in the background.
Benefits realised
• Control as many as eight locomotives in one consist, including popular models such as the Class 43 HST, Class 800, Class 91 and Mk4 DVT
• Faster setup and operation, with instant Consist creation and straightforward reassignment of pre-grouped locomotives
• Enhanced hobby experience through responsive touch controls and personalised display settings
• Improved user engagement and satisfaction, reflecting our commitment to rapid return on investment
